The Commissioner said “These are pure lies.”
Gen. Rwarakabije welcomed everyone who wants to visit the prison and obtain the right situation and check the facts.
IGIHE visited Mpanga prison and found that the allegations were false.
Earlier a political opposition group PS-Imberakuri had noted in a press release that some of its members detained at the facility were being tortured daily.
Gen. Rwarakabije observed that PS-Imberakuri want to tarnish Rwanda’s image as they always do.
The Commissioner affirmed that every prisoner in Rwanda is respected adding that Rwanda respects the rule of law and conventions it has ratified.
