Airtel Rwanda in partnership with the Ministry of Justice has launched the Abunzi Communication Incentive in Ngororero District.
Word ‘Abunzi’translated as ‘problem solver’ – is a hybrid form of justice combining traditional with modern methods of conflict resolution and is fully integrated into Rwanda’s justice system.
Abunzi Communication Incentive is a system that enables all ‘Abunzi’ (problem solvers) across the country to communicate with each other using mobile phone Closer User Group (CUG) technology to do their work without incurring any cost while they call.
In his opening remarks at the launch, Minister of Justice Busingye Johnston said, “I thank Airtel officials for making this partnership possible. We have no doubt the communication system extended to ‘Abunzi’ will help them during their operations of at work”
“As Airtel we have been very pleased to partner with the Ministry of Justice and be the bridge of communication between the “Abunzi” leaders across the country. We are dedicated to help them do their work easily ensuring a conflict free society”, Airtel Rwanda Director of Business Enterprise Philip Onzomasaid.
“We are happy about the partnership between Airtel and Ministry of Justice. We are committed and ready to help the “Abunzi” leaders in any kind of way as they use this system to ease their mode of communication between each other”, Rose Mugenyi Corporate Sales Manager.
The partnership between Airtel Rwanda and Ministry of Justice came into force in January this year and 18003 ‘Abunzi’ leaders have so far, been supplied with Airtel simcards and devices each.
