The donation marked the end of a month’s long campaign to drive Rwandans to contribute and generate donations for genocide widows and orphan in Huye district.
The handover took place at a ceremony held in the district’s Rusatira sector, Nyabusunzu cell on Saturday, May 17, 2014.
Speaking at the handover, Airtel’s Brian Kirungi said, “We at airtel wanted to join the entire Rwandan community as we commemorate 20 years of genocide against the Tutsi. We hope that our humble contribution will go a long way in helping the survivors.”
Speaking at the same event, the C.E.O of King Faisal Hospital, Mr. Emile Rwamasirabo said the campaign was one of the few ways the hospital could give back to the community.
He called upon the survivors to be strong while encouraging them that the Rwandan community would stand by them.”
Ms. Christine Nuwemugeni, the Vice- mayor of Huye district who also spoke at the event thanked airtel Rwanda and King Faisal for remembering the survivors and heralded them for the great initiative.
“Airtel and Kind Faisal have shown that there are people who will stand with the survivors during these tough times as we remember and commemorate 20 years of genocide against the Tutsis. Thank you,”
Items donated include; mattresses, food and household items.
The country has made tremendous progress since the 1994 genocide and this is one way to ensure that all communities involved directly or indirectly continue to be assisted and their lives improved through proactive action by both public and private initiatives.
