Airtel boosts Anti Natal Care by donating 3 Million Rwf to an association of HIV+ women

{As the world recognized World Aids day, Bharti Airtel donated 3 million Rwf to 170 HIV+ women, who are members of the Impore Association, based at the Kacyiru Police hospital. }

Imbuto Foundation has supported Impore Association under its Family Package project for several years. Family Package offers a comprehensive package of Prevention of Mother To Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services to families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. With the support of Imbuto Foundation all members of this association are trained with professional tailoring skills, which enable the members to generate income, care for their families, and live with dignity.

Impore association intends to use this donation to make and avail special “Mama kits”. These “Mama kits” will be offered to pregnant women, to encourage them to attend the 4 recommended antenatal care visits. The ministry of health recommends pregnant women to regularly visit the doctor, test for HIV, and take necessary precautions to prevent their unborn children from contracting the virus.

Mushimiyimana Daphrose, president of Impore Association is very grateful to Airtel, Imbuto Foundation and Kacyiru Hospital for the “Mama Kits” donation that will support the association’s efforts to raise awareness among pregnant women, on how to care for themselves and their unborn children.

These “Mama Kits” were offered to 3 mothers as a start but in the future, they will be offered to pregnant women once they complete the 4 recommended visits as encouragement for other pregnant women. “Mama kits” are composed of locally made baby baskets, babies’ clothes, pampers, soap and sanitary items for the mother.

Airtel as a telecommunication company is not only concerned about education and telecommunication but also a healthy society with dignified mothers.

During the ceremony, Teddy Bhullar CEO of Airtel expressed his eagerness to continue supporting the association in other activities.

Present at the event were also Radegonde Ndejuru – Director General of Imbuto Foundation and Kacyiru Hospital Representative.
