The African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AfCHPR) will hold its 36th Ordinary Session from 9 to 27 March 2015 at its seat in Arusha, Tanzania.
According to AfCHPR statement released in Kampala, Uganda on Sunday, the judges, among others, will consider and adopt the reports of the previous two Ordinary Sessions and deliberate on applications already before the Court.
They will also deliberate on applications for Advisory Opinion.
During the session, judges are scheduled to visit the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) and get briefing on the Residual Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT).
The MICT was established by UN Security Council Resolution 1966 (2010) to complete the remaining work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia after the completion of their respective mandates.
The MICT has two branches, one in Arusha, Tanzania, and another in The Hague, Netherlands.
The Court is composed of eleven judges, nationals of member states of the African Union elected in their individual capacity.
The Court meets four times a year in Ordinary Sessions.
Until end of last month, AfCHPR had received 35 applications of which it has finalized 20.
The Court was last month visited by the German President Joachim Gauck who praised the work accomplished so far by the Pan African judicial arm.
The current President of the Court is Justice Augustino Ramadhani from Tanzania.
