{The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences has decided to shift its headquarters from South Africa to Rwanda.}
Prof Neil Turok, the founder of the Institute, was in Kigali at the beginning of this month where he announced relocation of their headquarters to Rwanda.
He said that the shift of their headquarters was due to tremendous achievements Rwanda has registered in the past years especially in information technologies which makes Rwanda a model for African development.
When he met president Kagame during his recent visit, Neil Turok said; “We think Rwanda is a favorable place to support African youth to become future African leaders in science and technology,” he said.
The Rwandan minister of education , Dr Papias Musafiri said that preparations of the location that will host the institute are in final stages and added that it is pleasing to give value Rwandan efforts in promoting Science.
African Institute for Mathematical Sciences is comprised of excellent African institutes in post-graduate courses and institutes through which research and dissemination of mathematical science is conducted.
The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences has been operating in South Africa, in Cape Town. It was first established in 2003 in Senegal and has branches in Senegal, Ghana, Cameroon and Tanzania.
The institute is part of the project of six leading American universities including Cambridge, Cap, Oxford, Paris Sud XI, Stellenbosh and Western Cape University.
