African head of states to hold 18th Comesa summit

{African head of states and government are expected to arrive in Addis Ababa on Monday to hold their 18th meeting under the theme, “Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialization”.}

The summit which is also referred to as the Authority is the supreme policy organ of the COMESA and meets once a year.

It is responsible for the general policy direction and control of the performance of the executive functions of the organization.

The 19-member regional bloc aims to achieve sustainable economic and social progress through increased co-operation and integration in all fields of development particularly in trade, customs and monetary affairs but still facing some challenges to implement the essential agreements on these issues.

The nineteen countries of COMESA are: Burundi, Comoros, D.R. Congo, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Rwanda, Seychelles, Sudan, Swaziland, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The last meeting of African head of states was during the 17th summit held in Kinshasa in February 2014.
