ADEPR celebrates 75 years: Owns 326 schools, over 3000 churches

{The government has lauded ADEPR Rwanda for engagement in literacy programs, health care services and supporting vulnerable families. The message was conveyed on Saturday during celebrations of the diamond jubilee since its establishment in Rwanda. }

Spreading the gospel, education and literacy programs offered to elders, relief activities, building houses for orphans and genocide survivors, construction of schools and health centers are some of the activities that were strongly appreciated by the government last Saturday.

The minister of local government Kaboneka Francis said that ADEPR is a good partner of the government that has supported enhancement of its programmes.
“I appreciate your contribution towards the construction of classrooms, education and literacy programs as well as supporting the vulnerable. The government of Rwanda will keep collaborating with your institution to promote Christianity and Rwandans’ welfare.”

Kaboneka noted that the good collaboration between the government and religious organizations has borne fruits since the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi and appealed to the church to design and spread more messages that promote Christianity and portraying the good image of the country.

The spokesperson of ADEPR Rwanda, Pastor Sibomana Jean voiced appreciation to the Swedish Missionaries that launched the church in Rwanda in 1940 as well as other partners in spreading Christianity; efforts that have seen the congregation grow to over two million with 3,119 churches.

“The more the church grew in spiritual strength and footprint, the more it contributed to national development since the Church considers dual progression of both the body and soul,” he said.

Sibomana revealed that ADEPR has built 102 kindergarten schools, 158 primary schools, 58 secondary schools, 7 Teaching Vocational Education and Training(TVET) schools and a University offering Theology education; constructed 600 houses for orphans and genocide survivors across the country, established hospitals and health centers that have both improved welfare and provided jobs to a good number of Rwandans and through educating over 600 elders, scooped two international awards.

The ADEPR congregation has been growing since the church was first established in 1940 in Gihundwe, Rusizi District and today stands at over two million Christians.

Pastors and other believers from around the world attended and got involved in different anniversary activities including prayers and concerts that culminated into the Diamond Jubilee celebrations on the 21st November in Amahoro Stadium where thousands of Christians from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, Canada, Nigeria, Sweden, US and DRC were in attendance.

Sibomana, on behalf of Christians, conveyed a message that calls upon President Paul Kagame to stand for another term to continue with spearheading the values of good governance.
