{{Belgian Minister of Public Enterprises and Development Cooperation, Mr. Jean-Pascal Labille will for the first time visit Rwanda from 11 until 13 June 2013 upon invitation by government of Rwanda.}}
Belgium is the third bilateral partner of Rwanda. In 2011, both countries signed a cooperation agreement 2011-2014 for a total amount of 160 million EUR. Priority was given to interventions in three sectors: health, decentralization and energy.
The aim of Minister’s Labille visit is to maintain bilateral dialogue, while confirming the importance Belgium continues to attach to Rwanda.
For Minister Labille, this visit is of great significance. First, the Minister would like to witness the considerable headway Rwanda has made towards sustainable and inclusive development.
In addition, Rwanda remains an important partner towards the long term stabilization of the region, including Eastern DRC where the humanitarian situation is deteriorating day by day.
In the framework of bilateral relations between both countries, the Minister intends to take stock with Rwandan authorities of the ongoing cooperation programme.
During his visit, Minister Labille will have talks with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Louise Mushikiwabo and with Minister of Economy and Finance Amb. Claver Gatete. Following the latter discussion, three conventions will be signed (see infra).
Minister Labille will also have talks with multilateral donors and with NGO’s whose projects are funded by Belgium.
The Minister will conduct a field trip to visit health-related projects in Gatenga, Kucikiro district (Kigali) and decentralization projects in the districts of Rulindo and Gakenke in the Northern Province.
He will also pay tribute to the victims of the genocide at the Gisozi Memorial and visit the Memorial commemorating the death of 10 Belgian peacekeepers in 1994.
