{{The Rwandan Community in Botswana marked the 19th Commemoration of the Genocide Against Tutsi. }}
The ceremony held May 18 was attended by 90 people at the University of Botswana in Gaborone.
Also present included; Diplomats accredited to Botswana, lecturers and students of the University of Botswana, Rwandans and their friends.
The High Commissioner of Rwanda to Botswana with residence in Pretoria South Africa, Mr. Vincent Karega attended the ceremony.
In his speech, he explained to the audience the importance of the commemoration as we strive for self reliance.
“Rwandans understand well where they come from and where they want to be. Tremendous progress has been achieved and we have the determination to overcome the challenges ahead,” He said.
Other speakers gave an historical perspective of the Genocide, the international and domestic legal framework in place to judge those who committed the genocide, and the importance of forgiveness and reconciliation.
The Chairman of Rwandan Diaspora in Botswana, Sheikh Hassan Hategekimana, in his speech reminded that it is the responsibilities of all Rwandans to remember as they say “Never Again”.
