DRC Senators in Rwanda For Solutions to Regional Conflicts

{{A delegation of DRC senators have this evening honoured Genocide Victims at Kigali Genocide Memorial center at Gisozi.

The 1994 genocide against ethnic Tutsis claimed over a million lives.

The delegation however, did not speak to press.

They are visiting Rwanda for three days where they will meet with their counterparts to discuss matters of regional security, peace and stability.}}

During their stay, the delegation of 8 senators led by DRC Senate’s president Léon Kengo Wa Dondo, will explore the role of Parliaments of the two countries in finding solutions to regional conflicts.

The Rwandan Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Security and the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate of the DR Congo wil meet to discuss ways on improving parliamentary diplomacy.

Augustin Habimana, the Director General of Communication and Outreach at Parliament told a local daily, the meetings between senators of both countries will also explore why the region has armed militia.

He added that the senators will reflect on what has been done in terms of finding lasting solutions to problems as well as sustainable peace for the region.

The delegation will also visit Gihembe Refugee camp, Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre at Gisozi and Nkamira transit camp. They are also scheduled to tour Mutobo demobilisation Centre and Rwanda-DR Congo border in Rubavu district.
