Rwagitima Motor Taxi Cooperative Accused of Poor Conduct

{{A motorcycle taxi operator in Gatsibo district has died after hitting a house during a chase by cooperative officials in charge of security.}}

The deceased motorcycle taxi operator has been identified as Mutsindashyaka Bonavanture.

Eye witnesses told media that Mutsindashyaka met his death during a motorcycle chase from Finance trading centre at Rwagitima in Rugarama sector. He died instantly.

All motorcycle taxi operators in Rwagitima are registered to a cooperative association which also has a team that is in charge of security among the members.

However, this security and safety team of the cooperative is accused of going overboard in taking decisions beyond their mandate.

Residents in the area also claim the cooperative security team sometimes arrests private motorcycle owners and punish them as though they are motorcycle taxi operators.

Supt. Christophe Semuhungu the Police Spokesperson in eastern Province urged owners of vehicles and motorcycles to acquire necessary documents to avoid such incidences.
