{{Traders in Rwanda risk to be arrested and punished for defaulting the use of billing machines in their businesses.}}
Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA)has announced plans to intensify monitoring of the use of billing machines in all businesses in the country.
Although traders are provided the billing machines for free and trained, many have refused to use them citing several reasons.
The government spent over US$ 500,000 on purchasing the billing gadgets including training the traders on their usage.
Bumbakare Pierre Celestin a commissioner in RRA told IGIHE that the billing machines help traders on proper book keeping and ensuring that they are taxed according to sales recorded.
However, some traders told IGIHE that they are ignorant and cant operate the billing machines.
Bumbakare says the traders were given enough training on the operation of the billing machine adding that whoever has trouble with the machine should contact RRA for extra help.
Traders found in contravention of this directive risk closure of their businesses and a fine ranging from Frw2million and Frw2.5Million.
