Hope Kids Academy hosted a yard sale and auction/raffle Saturday to benefit genocide survivors and impoverished Primary students.
The goal of the historic event was to build a sense of solidarity in the Kigali community.
Being the first of its kind in Kigali, this event set a precedent of giving and altruism both for the students of Hope Kids Academy and the general public who were all welcomed and invited to the event.
The event was marked by a yard sale of second-hand and store bought goods, donated by the school and students’ parents: clothes, shoes, food, drinks, bicycles, tricycles and jewelry, were the main items to be sold.
The proceeds from the event will be donated to widowed and orphaned survivors of the genocide. Additionally, the money will also be allocated to purchasing school supplies for all of the students of GS Kagugu Primary in Kagugu Sector, Kigali.
The highlight of the event was an auction and raffle that featured donations from Turkish Airlines, a free round-trip flight to anywhere in Europe; signed footballs by the Rwandan National Football Team; and dinner coupons to both the Aberdeen House Hotel and the Kigali Serena Hotel.
The event took place in the morning of Saturday, the 23rd at the Hope Kids Academy campus in Nyarutarama, Kigali near the Uganda High Commission.
