4600 Squatters in Critical Zones Urged to Relocate

About 4,600 residents who rent houses in areas prone to disasters in Kigali City have been urged to relocate within one month ahead.

The Minister of Local Government James Musoni announced that Kigali City has a total number of 9000 residents dueling in critical areas that may threaten their lives.

Musoni said studies are being conducted to look for other places where residents can establish new homes adding that residents also are advised to duel in areas which are not prone to disasters.

Statistics shows that about 23,000 residents have been relocated countrywide while another figure of 42,000 residents still lives in areas prone to disasters. The number includes 9,000 residents of Kigali City.
