Rwanda has launched a national Vaccination campaign against Rubella and Measles targeting 5 Million Children across the country.
The event took place March 12, 2013 in Kibeho Sector of Nyaruguru District in which about 133,583 children will be vaccinated.
While launching the campaign, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, Oda Gasinzigwa, said this is part of efforts to prevent preventable diseases which might otherwise threaten people’s lives.
According to Charlie Whettam from GAVI-Alliance Rwanda become the first country in Africa to introduce the combined vaccine of Rubella and Measles.

Charlie said the vaccine will not cause negative effect to children since it 25 years being used in developed countries.
He said over 700 Million children have got the vaccine worldwide
It is estimated that the campaign will cost over $3.2 million (about Rwf2bn.)
Experts have termed the exercise “a phenomenal achievement” which is in line with the country’s efforts to achieve the target of zero-preventable deaths.
