{{As we joined the entire world in celebrations of the International Women’s Day, we recognize the significant and inspirational role played by our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters in the day to day well-being of the family in particular and the country in general. }}
We are also reminded of the importance of gender equality and the empowerment of women in our society.
In this regard, we salute all persons and institutions involved for their strong commitment and efforts towards the promotion of women’s rights.
The increasingly significant place of women in public service and the economy is today clear for all to see both in our country and globally.
While we can be proud of the great achievements made so far, this day comes also to remind us that there is still a long way to go in terms of addressing some challenges that women continue to face in their daily lives, including various forms of gender based violence that are constantly reported in many of our homes.
In this regard we cannot overstress the crucial role to be played by all of us, men and women, from the grass-roots level to those in decision making positions, in the fight against all forms of violence.
In celebrating Women’s Day this year, the Judiciary reaffirms its commitment to working in line with the legal and policy framework as established by our Constitution and other laws as well as international standards, towards the promotion of gender equality and the advancement of women in our society.
