The Government of Rwanda has announced that financing political parties that obtained 5% of votes will be done through Rwanda Governance Board instead of the Consultative Forum of Political Parties Authorized in Country.
François Byabarumwanzi the Chairperson of the lower chamber’s standing committee on National Unity, Human Rights and the fight against Genocide.
Byabarumwanzi was speaking during a plenary session where he gave a summary of the report of the Commission on the study of the Bill amending the law on political Parties and politicians.
He said that the law has been changed so that some of the activities of political Parties will no longer be funded citing trainings and seminars etc.
However, for the financing of electoral activities, whether the parties registered to FFP or not and even independent candidates will receive funding on condition that they have collected more than 5% of polls in each electoral event.
The fund will be provided through RGB.
