The story published Thursday on Igihe.com on alleged wrangles between MINISANTE and MINEDUC that reportedly called for the intervention of the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister is erroneous, inaccurate and misleading.

As members of the Social Cluster, both Health and Education sub-sectors anchor each other under this forum that also guides our policy and program interventions, complementing one another for stronger results.
Therefore, in light of what was highlighted in the article, we wish to state a few facts regarding the oversight of the Nursing Schools to guide the readers.
In 2008, there was a cabinet decision to put the oversight of these schools under the Ministry of Health for the sole purpose of providing guidance on the right curriculum that meets the health care vision we have for the country.
This decision was guided by the fact that these professionals are directly absorbed within the health sector upon graduation.
Therefore the decision was a cabinet position and not an act of ‘hijacking’ like the article erroneously insinuated.
Last year, 2012, upon a request from Ministry of Health and in view of the proposed One university scheme, it was proposed that these Nursing schools include Gitwe that was highlighted in the story be linked to school of medicine and allied sciences that will be under the One University.
This proposal has been discussed and agreed upon at a technical level and inter-ministerial level pending cabinet approval.
We hope the above explanations provide the context and correct the wrong impression that could have been created by the story.
