PM Orders Immediate Action Against Cattle Disease in East

The Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien Habumuremyi has
directed immediate action against livestock diseases following an assessment that revealed presence of foot and mouth disease outbreak “Uburenge” in Eastern Province.

The foot and Mouth disease is affecting different programs especially the one-cow-per poor family.

Dr. Habumuremyi was on Wednesday presiding over a meeting with Central and local Government authorities to evaluate the progress of performance contracts.

The Eastern Province has been plagued by livestock diseases which essentially affected milk production and caused meat scarcity.

However the Premier has asked for immediate solution to the existing problem.

While commenting on current status of Imihigo, the Premier made it clear that the conducted mid-term assessment has shown that most of the activities are on track rated at 51% to 100%.

He, however, noted that there should be clear communication and togetherness between Central and local Government for a validation of performance contracts.

The Prime Minister has commended local government for their speed towards development of citizens.
