{{The Opec Fund for International Development and the Government of Rwanda, represented by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning signed a Loan Agreement amounting US$12 million. }}
The agreement was signed by Mr. Suleiman J. Al-Herbish, Director General of OFID and Ronald Nkusi, the Director of External Finance in MINECOFIN on Rwanda side.
The signing of the agreement was held Tuesday at Opec headquarters in Vienna.
The Loan Agreement will finance the Rwanda Electricity Scale up Program implemented by EWSA.
The Ministry said the loan will also be used for the construction of Rukarara Sub-station, that will connect Rukarara I and Rukarara II to the national grid via Kilinda Station.
The project will include a 30Km transmission line from Rukarara to Kilinda and will enable the efficient dispatching of Rukarara generated electricity, which is currently limited to serving the Southern Province.
This project will be completed in one year and will contribute significantly to achieving the EDPRS target for electricity access.
