AU lauds Rwanda’s Commitment to Regional Peace

{{Rwanda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Louise Mushikiwabo has said the visit of AU commissioner for Peace and Security to Rwanda is the symbol that African Union is committed to understanding the deeper cause of Conflicts in Eastern DRC.}}

The Minister was, today 7th January, speaking to journalists shortly after Amb.Ramtane Lamamra met President Paul Kagame.

Mushikiwabo said DRC crisis has root causes that AU need to examine with due attention.

Amba. Lamamra who is also the AU Commissioner for Peace and Security said that during his visit in Great lakes region he was able to witness the strong commitment of country like Rwanda towards peaceful resolution to the crisis in DRC.

“So many important issues were discussed, panafricanism, African renaissance, 50th anniversary of AU. We have been focusing on conflict situations, in particular in the great lakes so the purpose of the visit was really educated our whole leaders as we are preparing a report to be submitted to AU,” Ramtane said.

He noted that this trip has enabled AU to get deep knowledge and the analysis of crisis in DRC.

“The message that I brought is that this region is important to the African union as the AU is important to the region and therefore we are one to be sensitive” He added.

Ramtane concluded that AU is ready to address the root causes of the conflict in DRC so that the solutions that will be brought about will be just and will build on realistic approach to the problems at hand.
