Rwanda to Assume Seat at UN Security Council

{{Despite false accusations that Rwanda supports M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda is about to take a seat at the UN Security Council.}}

After winning 148 votes against 193 of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Rwanda will, Tuesday, 1st January, 2013 start a two-year term on the board of the UN Security Council replacing South Africa.

Rwanda last served on the Security Council in 1993-94.

During this period the country endured genocide against Tutsis that claimed one million lives.

In eighteen years of focused nation-building, Rwanda is an active member of the UN, on track to meet or surpass all the MDGs and the sixth largest contributor to peacekeeping worldwide.
