Employees of Akagera Business Group and Toyota Rwanda Honor Genocide Victims

Akagera Business Group and Toyota Rwanda management, including Ganesh Senthil and Timimi Ali, attended the event, along with Deputy Executive Administrator of Gasabo District, Mudaheranwa Regis.

Other attendees included President of IBUKA in Gasabo, Kabagambire Theogene, former Managing Director of Akagera Business Group, Symphorien Kamanzi, and relatives of former La Rwandaise employees, among others.

Ntazinda Marcel, a poet and employee of Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), represented the Ministry of National Unity and Civic Engagement (MINUBUMWE) and provided a historical overview of Rwanda before and during colonial rule, leading up to the 1994 against the Tutsi.

Former employees of the company that have been identified include Shabakaka Vincent, Karangwa Ildephonse, Kandamutsa Leocadie, Mbakesha Fulgence, Karangwa Jean Marie Vianney, Nsengiyumva François and Nogeyahizi Jean Nepo while others are yet to be identified.

Symphorien Kamanzi said that the families of Shabakaka Vincent, Kandamutsa Leocadie, Karangwa Ildephonse have been identified as they continue to find more information on employees that worked at the company killed over their innate personality during Genocide against the Tutsi.

He requested the general public to share information on former employees of La Rwandaise killed during Genocide against the Tutsi to be commemorated.

The President of IBUKA in Gasabo District, Kabagambire Theogene also urged people to provide information on whereabouts more Genocide victims were dumped to be given decent burial and build a shared future.

He requested these companies to build monuments carrying names of former employees, victims of Genocide against the Tutsi so that young people or new recruits in their companies can easily learn history.

Gasabo District houses 11 Genocide memorials, accommodating 134,426 victims, not including those laid to rest at the Kigali Genocide Memorial.

Mudaheranwa assured that the government will continue to search for information on slain victims and encouraged Akagera Business Group and Toyota Rwanda to support Rwandans’ resilience.
