Africa Marks Anti-Corruption Week in Rwanda

The Chief Ombudsman of Rwanda Madame Aloysie Cyanzayire has said Corruption is an evil that is spreading like wildfire.

“It is a cancer on the economy. Rwanda has made a decision to be a country free of corruption.” Cyanzayire said.

She added that Rwanda has set up institutions to fight against corruption- the Office of the Ombudsman, the Public Prosecutor of the Prosecutor and the Police”.

Cyanzayire noted that fighting Corruption is not an easy task but is essential.

She noted that corruption remains a pernicious evil that “undermines good governance and human rights.”

Said Adejumobi, Director of Good Governance and Administration in the Office of UNECA in Addis Ababa, appreciates Rwanda’s commitment in the fight against corruption.

“It is for this reason that Rwanda has been recognized for his efforts and was named to celebrate the African Anti-Corruption Week. Rwanda has zero tolerance in Africa and in the world in terms of Anti-corruption, “he said.

A message from the Secretary General of the UN, Ban Kimoun, on the occasion of the International Anti-Corruption Day, noted;

“The cost of corruption is immense when measured in millions of U.S. $, schools, hospitals, and bridges that could change people’s lives.
Corruption is the cause of environmental hazards when it authorizes the illegal trade of animals, “the message said.

He added that prevention against corruption is important in the rule of law.

“Governments and citizens must play their part to succeed in creating a future where we are not exposed to corruption” He added.
Said Adejumobi exclaimed: “Rwanda is my home”.

“For since January 2013, all Africans come to Rwanda without visa. It is the dream of Pan-Africanism done. And it is a good practice for the whole of Africa, “he recommended.
