A 20-year old man was on December 7 arrested in Mugandamure Cell, Busasamana Sector in Nyanza District for allegedly defiling a nine-year old girl.
Charles Ntivuguruzwa allegedly forced himself on the nine-year old girl – name withheld – at about 7:00pm as the later returned home from school.
The suspect is detained at Busasamana Police Station. The victim was taken to Nyanza hospital for medical examination.
It is said that as the victim returned home, Ntivuguruzwa, who is a shoe repairer in Mugandamure trading centre, followed her and defiled her from the nearby bush.
Police in Nyanza said the suspect, who previously had a clean criminal record, was arrested by area residents who caught him in the act and handed him to police.
The police spokesperson in the southern region Supt. Hubert Gashagaza condemned strongly such a crime, stating that all people must work together to act in a way to refrain such a scourge.
Article 191 states that, any person, who commits child defilement, shall be liable to life imprisonment with special provisions.
