The statement released by the Ministry of Defence reads that the appointment and promotion takes immediate effect.
In 2016, Col Niyomugabo was the Commander of Rwanda Aviation Unit IV (RAU IV) peacekeepers serving under the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).
He has been serving as the head of RDF J1 prior to his new appointment.
