Drocella Mukaniyonsenga, a resident of Gatsiro has told IGIHE that their health post was inaugurated one year ago but is currently used for other purposes that they still make long walks to access health services.
“The health post was completed one year ago. It is however used to store mosquito repellants,” she said.
Considering the situation experienced by neighbors, Emmanuel Nturanye from Kagaro cell requested relevant authorizes to intervene so that the recently inaugurated health post can be used appropriately to serve residents.
“We hardly accessed health services after traveling long distances to Gihundwe or Nkanka. We need assistance from relevant authorities to ensure the health post is put to good use to fast track services,” he noted.
The mayor of Rusizi district, Ephrem Kayumba has revealed that nurses from nearby health centers will be assigned to these health posts on rotational basis as they await a durable solution.
“We have agreed that health centers will assign nurses to attend to patients at these health posts three days per week to reduce long-walks. We are also engaging with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Service and Labor so that these health posts can get permanent workers,” he noted.
Rusizi district has 46 health posts. Eight of them are not operational while the majority of the rest is managed by private investors who don’t work with Mutuelle de Santé.
