The call was made on Saturday during the commemoration of Tutsi killed in the area during which three remains of Genocide victims recently exhumed from different graves in Mbazi and Nyagisozi sectors of Nyamagabe district were buried decently.
These remains were buried at Mbazi Genocide Memorial which is home to 1367 victims killed for innate personality.
Speaking during the ceremony, the mayor of Nyamagabe district Bonaventure Uwamahoro commended Genocide survivors for resilience, contribution to national development, promoting unity and reconciliation by forgiving offenders who killed relatives and living in harmony with them.
He requested residents to stand united to resist propagandists denying and trivializing Genocide against Tutsi and reveal whereabouts more victims are dumped so that they can be accorded decent burial.
“We must stand united against people denying and trivializing Genocide against Tutsi. We still have people harboring genocide ideology but we need to be on common ground to resist them. I am optimistic that we shall defeat them under the guidance of our visionary leadership,” he said.
“We also request residents to reveal whereabouts Genocide victims are dumped to be buried decently and continue unity and reconciliation journey as we seek to prevent reoccurrence,” added Uwamahoro.
Michel Rugemana, a Genocide survivor who attended the ceremony said that Nyamagabe is among areas where Tutsi were heinously killed during Genocide following years of oppression.
He thanked RPF Inkotanyi soldiers for stopping Genocide, restoring hope and promoting unity and reconciliation among Rwandans.
