The Minister of Local Government James Musoni has called for concrete ideas on how the ‘African story’ can be told positively by African journalists.
Musoni made the remarks while officially opening the 4th National Dialogue on Media Development and 5th General meeting in Kigali.
He urged media editors to speak louder and shape positive Africa’s destiny and voice on the international scene.
The Minister said African Journalists could not keep relying on western media sources to tell their own stories.
About 100 officials from 40 countries are gathered in Rwanda discussing “Investing in media to enhance democratic governance.”
The second day (Wednesday) of the meeting will feature debates between media practitioners and politicians, with expected outcomes including the realisation of a self-sustaining and inter-related African media regulatory body.
