31% of Teachers’ Houses Constructed

The Ministry of Education has said construction of teachers’ accommodation is on track.

Presently 31% of the total houses have completed and other 71% are under construction.

It is expected that by the second term of 2013 all houses will be available to owners.

One house values between Rwf 15 Million and Rwf 25 Million.

Depending on available contribution from local communities the value can reach Rwf 80 Million each.

However, some districts are said to be slower in the construction especially Musanze district with progress at 1.3%, 4,7% in Rubavu District and 5% in Rusizi district.

Eight teachers in each sector will get houses and the program priorities those of twelve year basic education (12YBE).

The construction of teachers’ houses will go a long way in motivating teachers and restoring some dignity to the teaching profession.
