This was revealed on Friday, November 9, 2012 during a press conference on ‘Global Entrepreneurship Week to kick off on Monday, November 12-18, this week is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch businesses that bring new ideas to life, drive economic growth, and improve human welfare.
Minister Nsengimana said that the first thing needed in creating jobs is to bring a good idea; he added also that when you want a loan you have first to save your own money.
The head of Human Capital and Institutional Development at Rwanda Development Board (RDB), Apollo Munanura noted that “”What is important is to bring a good business idea which is bankable.”
This Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Rwanda is hosted nationally by the Ministry of Youth and ICT (MYICT), the Babson – Rwanda Entrepreneurship Center (BREC), and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), this year’s theme is “Empowering Youth and Women for Productivity”.
The purpose of Global Entrepreneurship Week is to motivate aspiring entrepreneurs to launch businesses and help active business-owners to grow their ventures; facilitate valuable connections to help build and expand networks both in Rwanda and internationally; provide valuable mentorship opportunities to support the move from ideation to launch.
Minister of Youth and ICT said that “In its 7 Years Program, the Government of Rwanda pledges to create 200,000 new jobs annually, targeting .4 million jobs at the end of the program.
We believe that entrepreneurship will play a key role to achieve this goal by enabling women and youth, who comprise approximately 70% of the population, with skills required for the establishment and smooth running of business ventures leading to self-employment opportunities to meet new demands for quality, productivity, reliability, innovation, flexibility and capacity to adapt to changing needs.”
2011 marked Rwanda’s inaugural Global Entrepreneurship Week. Twenty two partner organizations joined the campaign and hosted twenty six local activities that reached 12,000 people.
The goal for 2012 is to roughly double those metrics and reach 50,000 people through fifty activities.
