It was revealed on Saturday during the party’s ordinary assembly aimed at discussing measures to addressing problems facing Northern Province and how to sort them out.
The Chairman of RPF Inkotanyi in Northern Province, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi the media that lack of accommodations is among problems members committed to addressing.
A total of 1386 families in Northern Province are reported to be living without houses.
The construction of houses for 1368 families will be completed at a cost of Rwf 1.2 billion. Funds to build some houses will be catered for by districts’ budgets.
“There is no reason why we should start 2020 having residents with no accommodations. We are optimistic that they will all be properly settled by 32nd December 2019,” said Governor Gatabazi.
“We have discussed the complexity of the problem and made it our own that they immediately raised over Rwf 13 million contributions. There are other absent members who committed to support the initiative hence increasing the contribution. The next step is to buy roofing sheets and other necessary equipment to start construction activities,” he added.
The matter of families without accommodations was brought to attention recently on 1st October 2019 when the Minister of Local Government, Prof Anastase Shyaka visited Musanze district.
He requested concerned officials to put it among priority issues to be addressed to improve residents’ wellbeing.
