Eric is suspected to have raped women at different occasions in Gako forest in Bugesera was also said to be HIV positive.
He was shot dead on Sunday evening as he jumped over Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB) van that was taking him into custody.
Women from Rilima sector told the media that Eric used to waylay and rape them inside Gako forest. Rape victims reported the culprit to officials which led to the hunt of the suspect.
Police spokesperson in Eastern Province, CIP Twizerimana Hamdun has confirmed to IGIHE that the suspect has been shot.
“Police arrested and handed him to RIB as investigation was underway. He had pleaded guilty but revealed that he connived with other gangsters whom he was going to reveal,” he said.
Twizerimana explained that RIB took him to an area where the suspect pretended to show connivers and was shot dead along the way jumping over the vehicle to escape.
He thanked citizens for collaboration which led to the arrest of Eric and requested them to report criminals on time.
