Usually for customers to load airtime, they were required to use a code, which would be bothersome for some users because they had to save or remember the code regularly.
MTN on Tuesday launched a new technology dubbed MyMTN App, which will help its smartphone owners who use the company’s services to get them more conveniently.
MyMTN APP is an all in one self-care app that gives users full control in managing their phone account, monitors your usage pattern, manages data usage and subscribes to products and services from a mobile device, all on-the-go.
Launching the App on Tuesday at MTN Rwanda headquarters, Desire Rudahunga, MTN’s Senior Operations Manager said they believe users will like the new facility.
“Someone who has this application will be able to purchase data bundle or use mobile money without going through the process of using codes,” he said.
He added that the app comes in line with fast-growing smartphone penetration in the country while giving subscribers greater control of their own mobile services and enable them to solve issues without having to contact the company’s agents.
“Now someone who wants to purchase water, electricity, to pay for a TV card and other services, will be able to put it in this application and on the date of the service you want to do, it will be automatic,” he said.
MTN’s new application is unique because users are not charged any fee to use it.
MTN’s Senior Manager Arthur Rutagengwa, also said that the application will address the challenge of using codes a time-consuming process.
The application is already available for all MTN post-paid and prepaid smartphone subscribers and can be downloaded for free from app stores such as Apple Store, Google Play and Blackberry World.
Officials said that the use of the application isn’t meant to replace MTN’s current USSD format, but to give customers a choice on what is suitable for them.
