Supreme Court adjourns Muvunyi’s Rwf 1 billion appeal case

The latter is a private company that engages in the production, processing and marketing of pyrethrum.

Muvunyi was found guilty of embezzling over Rwf1 billion by Musanze Commercial Court. He then appealed to a higher court and was cleared of all charges against him.

Horizon-Sopyrwa also appealed to the Supreme Court claiming that it was dissatisfied with the decision taken by the Commercial Court.

Sopyrwa, in its accusations against Muvunyi, says in 2007, using the privilege of his office, embezzled $1,200,000 (over Rwf1 billion) from 20 tonnes of liquid pyrethrum that were about to be exported.

The company also claims for a refund of fines from Muvunyi it was charged by Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) on the funds of the tender that it was offered by the Ministry of Health for the purchase of mosquito nets worth Rwf1, 103, 618, 028.

The money was deposited on the company’s account, but was not reflected in the financial statement yet Muvunyi transferred it to his hotel’s account in a Musanze bank.
Controversial agreements

Muvunyi was accompanied by his advocates, Christophe Niyomugabo and Alfred Bandore.
Horizon Group Ltd, was represented by Isaie Mpayimana and Mr Emmanuel Abijuru.

The hearing started at 12h35 with the judge reading the background of the case and justification for appeal to the Supreme Court before postponing hearing of the case to December 21, 2018, at 8.30 a.m.
