On Friday, Akagera Motors that is part of Akagera Business Group put the trucks on market with a launch at their offices in Karuruma in Gasabo District.
Fuso Canter has a capacity of carrying up to 4.2 tonnes, with which it may also easily travel on steep terrain.
The truck which has been on the market for more than 50 years, costs Rwf32 million with taxes. It is unique for consuming less fuel.
There is also Fuso FI1217 that can carry a maximum of 8 tonnes. It costs Rwf51 million with taxes.
This is also unique for various uses such as carrying water, milk, meat, and so on.
Akagera Motors also put on the market FJ 1823 trucks that can carry a maximum of 12 tonnes. They are unique for carrying heavy contents like beverages. It costs Rwf62.5 million.
In addition to the new Fuso brand vehicles, there is FJ 2528 R which can carry up to 20 tonnes and has a tipper. It costs Rwf71.2 million, and FJ 2528C worth Rwf72.7 million including taxes.
The director of the commercial department in Akagera Motors Mr. R. Shivaprakash said that many people were accustomed to buying secondhand trucks but that they are now introducing new ones.
“Fuso is a good and well-known vehicle brand to Rwandan citizen. Besides being new and good, they are cheap, comfortable and strong enough to use for over 20 years,” he said.
He added that another uniqueness of the car brands is the fact that they are made by Daimler a Belgian car manufacturer which also makes Mercedes. Moreover, getting spare parts is easier because Akagera Motors have them.
“We will be helping customers that need a customized component, for that which we will not be able to make here, we will be using our own factory in Kenya. We shall be imported in accordance with customers needs,” he said.
Since 1997, Akagera Motors has been selling cars including the ones made by Toyota, Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation and HINO in Japan; Mercedes Benz in Germany; Manufacturing Commercial Vehicles (MCV) in Egypt; Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. Chinese and Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M & M) and Ashok Leyland in India.
