Reliable sources reveal to IGIHE that the Senegalese-American singer Akon is among the special guests who will give names to 23 gorilla infants on September 7.
Akon will also participate at the Kwita Izina Gala Dinner that will take place in Rubavu District shortly after the gorilla naming ceremony.
Mafikizolo, South African singing duo, will entertain participants at the dinner.
While in Rwanda, Akon will also visit his solar project in Ndego Sector of Kayonza District.
The initiative is part of a wider Akon Lighting Africa project that is being implemented by Solektra International in which the star has shares.
Akon Lighting Africa was launched in 2014 but Akon brought it to Rwanda in July 2015.
At the time, Akon held talks with different government officials but IGIHE learnt from the Ministry of Infrastructure in July 2017 that nothing had been done until then.
The project aimed at distributing solar energy systems to remote areas targets 12 African countries including Rwanda.
Others are Mali, Niger, Senegal, Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone, Benin, Guinea Equatorial, Gabon, Republic of Congo, Namibia, Madagascar and Burkina Faso.
