Ngoma District Stadium is President Paul Kagame’s pledge in the district during presidential campaigns last year where he promised Eastern Province three stadiums of Ngoma, Bugesera and Nyagatare.
According to Ngoma District Head of Infrastructure, Célestin Mutabazi, the stadium will be constructed on a surface area of 4.5 hectares.
“This stadium being constructed in Kibungo Sector, had basic activities like plot preparation started in June. It is being constructed by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) and will seat on 4.5 hectares and will have seating capacity of 3500 spectators,” he said in an interview with IGIHE.
The stadium will have football, tennis, volleyball, basketball and handball pitches.
Ngoma District Mayor, Aphrodis Nambaje told IGIHE that the stadium iwill as well be hosting different entertainment events.
“I believe that when Rwanda hosts international competitions like CAN or CHAN, this stadium can also host some games and other events,” Nambaje said.
Different people who spoke to IGIHE said the stadium will facilitate them in talent promotion among the youth.
“It will be a great facility for our local team Etoile de l ‘Est, which, with proper usage may propel it into first division,” said Ngoma resident, James Ngaboyisonga.
