Former Workers of NRD Mining Firm Fleeced

After suspending Natural Resources development (NRD) from Mining activities in Ngororero, residents who have worked for the company want the company to pay salary arrears of five months.

However, local authorities say they will ask the company owner to pay residents since they have rights to their salaries.

The Ministry of Natural Resources temporally suspended NRD following illegal wolfram mining that damaged Giciye River through one of its sources called Nyagikero.

The suspended company conducted its activities unsustainably where environment has been reportedly damaged and this resulted in flooding which leaving citizens’ crops destroyed.

Since its suspension, NRD has left the region and no one knows where the company relocated.

The former employees of the company said they don’t know where to report their cases.

However, Mutwarangabo Innocent, the executive Secretary of Muhande sector assured citizens to make a follow up about the existing problem adding that the company should pay citizens for their works.

The secretary added that they will help former employees to create new jobs including helping them to find new ones at a tea factory.
