Kimicanga Residents Complain of Unfair Relocation

Residents of Kimicanga are complaining about unfair and selective relocation taking place in Kimihurura sector in Kigali city.

Residents noted that some people are being relocated while others are left in a ruined area without being relocated.

The relocation is in line with building houses according to Kigali City master plan.

It is noted that the District of Gasabo has managed to relocate citizens leaving near the tarmac road from city center to Kimihurura and another neighbourhood near Kimicanga wetland.

Citizens who were left in the middle of the ruined region said that they are afraid of disasters which may occur following the rainy season including risks of robbers which is reportedly taking place there.

Citizens urged Gasabo District to relocate them as soon as possible.

Jean Claude Munara, The Vice-Mayor of Economic affairs in Gasabo district says the District authorities are aware of the problem adding that the reason of not relocating the whole region was due to the budget constraints.

Frw 4 Billion was to be used in the process of relocating, however, the District was not able to get all the sum “that’s why some were not relocated.”

Jean Claude Munara assured residents that by the end of 2012, all remaining citizens in Kimicanga will be relocated.
