{Police in Nduba Sector of Gasabo District have arrested a 33-year old man, who allegedly attempted to strangle to death an 11-year-old boy so as he could steal the goats he was grazing.

According to the police, on January 16, Vincent Habarurema found the 11-year-old victim grazing goats, strangled him leaving him unconscious, apparently thinking he was dead, and stole all the 15 goats the boy was grazing.
“By the time of his arrest, Habarurema was found with nine goats and Rwf80, 000, which he made out of other goats he had already sold,” Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, Police Spokesperson for the City of Kigali, said.
“The boy was found unconscious later in the day by the residents, who reported the theft, and is currently recovering well in the hospital,” he added.
The spokesperson thanked residents that hurried to inform police after the incident which facilitated quick information.
He added that the suspect will be charged for “theft with violence or threat” under article 302 of the penal code, which sets an imprisonment of between three and five years.
However, if the violence or threats used in theft result in an illness or temporary loss of working capacity, the term of imprisonment goes up to ten years.
