The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) has announced that Rwanda’s GDP in the third trimester of 2016 rose from Rwf 1,506 to 1,662 billion, a 5.2% growth.
The growth rate has decelerated compared the previous trimesters as the first grew by 7.3% while the growth of second trimester increased by 5.4%.
In the third trimester of 2016 from July, August, and September agriculture and animal husbandry sectors grew by 1%, industrial sector by 7% while services sector grew by 6%.
The second trimester of 2016 from April , May and June agriculture and animal husbandry grew by 3%, industries by 2% while services increased by 9%.
The NISR report in the third quarter of 2016 indicates that service sector continues to top in contributing to the economy as at 48% of GDP, agriculture and animal husbandry with 33% while industries contributed at13%.
Agricultural exports reduced by 13%, caused by a fall in coffee harvests that dropped by 14% and tea by 23%.
In general Rwanda’s economy grew by 6% up to the third quarter.
