{Commercial motorcyclists operating in Mukoto Sector of Rulindo District have formed an anti-crime club through which they will be discussing various community policing measures to detect and fight all forms of criminality.}
The club brings together 110 motorcyclists organized under their cooperative – COTAMOB – who vowed to make crime prevention part of their daily business operations.
The club will, among others, mainly focus fighting drug trafficking as means to break the supply chain through real time information sharing with the police in the district.
Anti-crime clubs have been one of the means through which awareness against criminality have been raised in schools and in communities.
Currently, there are over 1500 clubs across the country.
Inspector of Police (IP) Fidele Mbonimana, the District Community Liaison Officer of Rulindo, while addressing the motorcyclists, commended the initiative to form a forum through which they will be supporting policing activities to improve safety and security in Rulindo.
He noted that fighting lawlessness is possible where there are good working relations with all institutions and the residents.
“The Police is going to support you in the collective effort to fight any illegal activity,” IP Mbonimana said.
He urged them to also distance themselves from their members, who engage in criminal acts like trafficking and abusing drugs.
IP Mbonimana also appealed to them to use the forum to always remind each other on responsible use of roads by respecting traffic rules and regulations,
The elected chairperson of the club, Jean Nepomosene Munyankindi said that the forum will help them to contribute to crime prevention in an organized way, exchange information among ourselves and the law enforcers, with an ultimate goal of improving public safety.
