MTN-ENGEN launch mobile money payment platform for fuel

MTN Rwanda in collaboration with ENGEN petroleum station have launched a new payment platform of fuel using mobile money.

The new payment system was launched yesterday at ENGEN station in Kicukiro.

MTN Rwanda’s General Manager of Human Resources and Corporate Affairs, Mary Asiimwe who represented the Chief Executive Officer of MTN said the initiative will facilitate improved work and enhance quick service delivery.

“The initiative is very important as it will help people’s steps towards a cashless economy, save time that would be spent counting money to be paid and realize fast services delivery,” she said.

Asiimwe explained that the initiative supporting the country’s drive towards cashless economy will have a great impact given that MTN has more than 4 million Mobile Money subscribers.

Jeannine Kayihura, Sales and Marketing Manager of ENGEN, said that the initiative will ease transactions.

“We are delighted with the payment platform using mobile money. It will make the work faster and keep people away from risks of getting their money stolen,” she said.

She explained that the initiative of using mobile money for fuel payments has started with 19 ENGEN stations nationwide.

Ndagijimana Claude, a commercial motorcyclist has lauded the new platform as it comes in handy.

“We have appreciated the service; we will no longer be required to carry much money in pockets putting us on theft risk,” he said.
