African passport launched

{The president of Chad, also outgoing chairman of African Union, Idris Deby has been the first to receive the Africa passport launched yesterday during the 27th AU Summit followed by the host President Paul Kagame.}

The chairperson of AU commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, noted that issuing African passports will have to follow and respect countries’ guidelines in delivering the document.

“I can say that we have been requested that common passports be passed to other ministers, leaders and other Africans wishing to own the common African passport.
As we have launched the common passport, we request countries to consent the delivery of passports to citizens respecting usual process in case they will be ready for it,” she said.

Dr Dlamini Zuma said that a delegation in charge has collected information of other heads of states so that they can immediately receive their passports along with foreign affairs ministers and ambassadors in African Union.

President Deby said that the launch of common passport is a significant milestone in Africa’s vision of Agenda 2063.
