RPC West tips Nyamasheke residents on community policing

{The Western Region Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Bertin Mutezintare has told residents of Nyamasheke District to own up initiatives geared towards public safety as a firm ground for development.}

ACP Mutezintare made the remarks during a recent meeting held in Cyato Sector and brought together residents, representative of security organs and local leaders.

The RPC lauded the current police-public partnership in crime prevention in the area and their role in development issues, but urged them to strengthen night patrols in order to deal with any security challenge that could arise.

He also urged them to actively take part in government development programmes and ensure no child drops out of school.

“Without security, we cannot sleep, neither can we work. This is why your role in community policing is paramount. We want total security to ensure that every Rwandan feels more secure, we can only achieve that by intensifying our cooperation,” he said

“You have to always remember that security and safety starts with you, and that’s why we have community policing which binds you as well put in place measures as a community, to partner with police to fight issues affecting your well being,” he added.

He added that Rwanda National Police appreciates all the crime prevention groups for their efforts in ensuring public safety and urged them to keep up the fight against crimes and always share information timely with Police.

“If we are to achieve our developmental goals we have to be patriotic and have integrity” he said.
