{Ngororero District Police Commander (DPC) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Marc Gasangwa, has told 354 students from two secondary schools in the district to be exemplary in crime prevention.}
The students are from GS Ngurugunzu and GS Rubona – both schools in Gatumba Sector.
During the awareness campaign held in the two schools this week, SSP Gasangwa urged students to stay focused during their upcoming holidays and desist from all sorts of unlawful acts including abusing drugs that may lure them into other violent acts.
“During holidays, you should conduct yourselves in a respectful manner. As young people, you should abide by the law at all times and reject violence, or any illegal activity that may undermine the security and safety of your communities,” said SSP Gasangwa.
He added that; “Some of you may be lured by your peers to abuse drugs and alcohol, but you should have the courage and self-esteem to say no. Utilize your holidays in a manner that is beneficial to your families, community and Rwanda in general.”
SSP Gasangwa noted that youth constitute the biggest percentage of the Rwandan society and that it is imperative that they play a major role in community policing mainly through crime prevention, cooperating with Police by providing timely information to solve or prevent a crime, volunteer in educating communities about unlawful acts like abusing drugs.
The dean of studies at GS Ngurugunzu, Lambert Muganje commended the students for concentrating on their studies, and urged them to heed to their elders’ advice in order to develop into responsible citizens.
One of the students, Byukusenge Laurence said; “the knowledge we have acquired will help us keep safe from any temptations.”
