Namibian Gender Minister visits Isange One Stop Centre

{The Minister of Gender, Equality and Child Welfare of Namibia, Doreen Sioka visited Isange One Stop Centre located at Kacyiru District hospital on July 11 and commended the partnership between various institutions to address the challenges of violence women and children face.}

At the centre, Minister Sioka, who headed a delegation of five officials from Namibia, was received by the coordinator of Isange centres, Supt. Shafiga Murebwayire, who explained to them on the background of the centre and the services it offers.

The centre was established in 2009 with the support of the First Lady Jeannette Kagame through Imbuto Foundation to offer free medical, psycho-socio, legal and counseling services to victims of gender based violence and child abuse.

The Minister and her delegations toured various quarters of the centre including the counseling, children and medical rooms, where she was explained on services offered in each section.

Supt. Shafiga explained that about 92 percent of the victims it receives are women, the majority victims of gender based violence.

Currently, the centre operates in 27 district hospitals across the country.

“It was indeed a pleasure to visit and learn more from Isange One Stop Centre,” Minister Sioka said.

“The name itself – Isange (feel at home) – gives hope and describes the quality of services offered. I am impressed with how various institutions work together in a holistic approach to respond to the needs of children and women whose rights are violated,” she added.

Isange brings together stakeholders of Rwanda National Police, the ministries of Justice, Health and Gender and Family Promotion to offer all the required services related to medical and legal to the victims.
