Unguka Bank donates cows to Nyabihu genocide survivors

Unguka Bank has donated 10 cows to families of genocide survivors in Nyabihu district and promised to pay university tuition fees for vulnerable secondary-leaving students.

Mujawimana Dancilla, a beneficiary and mother of five, lauded the support and vowed to make a good use of the donation.

“We are extremely delighted since we would live a hard life and eat poorly before. The received cow will help me to combat malnutrition, contribute to my progress till I support other vulnerable people,” she said.

The donations of ten cows were handed to beneficiaries on Thursday along with the cheque of Rwf 500,000 to support Nyabihu district to renovate Mukamira genocide memorial and pledged to pay university fees for Ngabo Xavier .All support is valued Rwf 10 million.

Byakunda Faustin, the director general of Unguka Bank requested residents to fight against genocide ideology to avoid reoccurrence of tragedies that ruined the country during the 1994 genocide against Tutsi.

“Even though we are a commercial institution, we have responsibilities to contribute to the welfare of Rwandans. We must strive to completely uproot genocide ideology,” he said.

The deputy mayor of Nyabihu district for economic affairs and development, Mugwiza Antoine also stressed the need to combat genocide ideology and concentrate on creating harmony in Rwandan society.

About 7,000 people were killed in Nyabihu district during the 1994 genocide against Tutsi, 2154 of whom have been accorded decent burial in Mukamira memorial.
